Marakoopa Cave (Mole Creek)

Mole creek caves mainly consists of 2 Caves King Solomon and Marakoopa caves. The caves are located at 15 min driving distance from each other and entry to the caves are by tours only.

The cave is located at 90km from Launcerston and is a must visit place. You should have national park pass which can be bought online or in any visitor information center.

Bookings are highly recommended to visit both caves and parking is limited. You can also enjoy a beautiful Fernglade Walk from the ticket office parking area to the Marakoopa Cave entrance. Marakoopa Cave was first discovered in 1906 by Harold & James Byard and is believed to 400-500 million years old. The cave consists of beautiful sparkling crystals Dolerite and are formed by flowing water downstream. The youngest rock formation is believed to be 2000 years old. The temperature inside the cave is 9 degrees in Summer, so go well clothed.

The Marakoopa mainly operates 2 type of tours and each tour is 45 min long. The Underground Rivers and Glow Worms Tour of Marakoopa Cave highlights the sparkling crystals, reflective pools and is suitable for all fitness level. The Great Cathedral and Glow Worms Tour of Marakoopa Cave Tour requires medium fitness as it requires you to climb 250 stairs.

The cave has beautiful formations of limestones and sparkling crystal. Watching the glow worms in that total darkness takes another level of experience.
