Baxter Falls via Flaxton Walkers Camp
Baxter Falls can be found in the Obi Obi Gorge area, which forms a part of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland region in Queensland, Australia. It is possible to reach the waterfall through two distinct sections of Kondalilla National Park. The first access point is located off Suses Pocket Road( 3.9 km return) , while the second access point is off Flaxton Mill Road (6.9 km return, our watch showed more than 7.5km ). In our case, we accessed the falls through the Flaxton Mill Road entry point. You can refer to the Google Map for the exact location of the car park below.
The trail leading to Baxter Falls is well-maintained and features clear signage at each junction. While it is classified as a Class 3 track, which is suitable for most ages and fitness levels, it should be noted that there are some steep sections and uneven terrain which could make it a moderately challenging hike.
Initially, the trail starts as a wide road until the Flaxton Walkers Campsite, a designated camping area within Kondalilla National Park. The campsite offers essential amenities for campers, such as restrooms, picnic tables, and fire pits, and serves as an excellent starting point for exploring the park’s hiking trails and waterfalls.
As we continue along the trail, it gradually narrows into a single track, leading downhill towards Baxter Falls. The path is clearly marked with signs, making it easy to navigate. Baxter Falls itself is a beautiful natural wonder, surrounded by lush rainforest and fed by the Obi Obi Creek as it flows through the rugged gorge.
Another attraction is Baxter Creek Swing Bridge a suspension bridge located closed to Baxter Falls. The bridge spans across Baxter Creek, providing a picturesque and thrilling experience for hikers and visitors to the park. The swing bridge is approximately 50 meters in length and is suspended over 25 meters above the creek. The bridge sways gently as visitors cross it, adding to the excitement of the experience. The view from the bridge is breathtaking, with stunning vistas of the surrounding rainforest and the creek below.
Visitors should wear appropriate footwear and clothing, bring plenty of water and snacks, and take care on the trail. It’s also important to note that the track may be closed during wet weather due to safety concerns, so visitors should check the park’s website or contact the park office before embarking on the trail.
