Queenstown, once a popular mining spot is a small town with the population of 2000 people in west coast region of Tasmania, Australia. It is located at 260km from Hobart, be prepared for some winding roads more towards Queenstown.

The city is surrounded by beautiful mountain ranges and is one of the wettest region in Tasmania. The West Coast Wilderness Railway: Queenstown Explorer from Strahan is a popular tourist extraction. There are significant opportunities to catch glimpses of the town’s past at the local museum or simply drive past the rugged region and explore scenic look outs and waterfalls.
Nelson Falls
On the way to Queenstown approximately 30KM from before Queenstown on Lyell Highway lies between the dense picturesque forest is Nelson Falls, one of the beautiful cascade falls one finds in Tasmania. From car park it takes 1KM easy walk to reach Nelson falls, accessible by wheelchair and kids friendly walk.
Iron Blow Lookout
Iron blow Lookout is located at 10km from Queenstown and is a great pitstop while driving from Hobart to Queenstown. The Iron Blow Lookout gives you a bird’s eye view of the open-cut mine with the stains of mineral deposits streaking the pit’s walls. It makes a beautiful site of the magnificent emerald colour of water. It a great testament of mining activities of Linda Valley .
Horsetail Falls Trail
When you come back from Iron blow hole road to main Lyell Highway , the other side you have a Horsetail falls walking trail. Although its a seasonal water fall the walk to the falls is so beautiful along a cliff edge with panoramic view of the valley.
The West Coast Wilderness Railway
The West Coast Wilderness Railway starts from Queenstown at 9am . Its a good way t0 explore the scenic West Coast Wilderness. Due to limited occupancy one need to pre-book the tickets. If you don’t want to experience the rail journey one can watch the heritage steam engine leaving the station and enjoy coffee at the railway cafe.

Although eateries in Queenstown are limited with a pub , local pizza , Chinese Thai restaurant, the Empire Hotel and a the railway cafe , its a great value for money.
